Mike Rivera was named Head Coach of the Bolles Track & Field program in June 2019. Rivera joined the Bolles staff in 2013 as a Chemistry teacher and head boys’ cross country coach. He also joined the Residential Life Staff in 2015. Rivera led the girls' track and field team to back-to-back state titles in 2021 and 2022, garnering Florida Dairy Farmers Class 2A Girls' Coach of the Year honors both seasons and US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Florida Girls' Coach of the Year honors in 2021. He has led the boys' cross country team to its most success in the last three decades. The 2017 and 2018 seasons produced consecutive state titles, Nike Cross Nationals berths, individual cross country state titles and coach of the year honors by both the Florida Dairy Farmers Sports Awards and U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Rivera led the boys' cross country team to another state title in 2021 and to runner-up finishes in 2016, 2019 and 2020. On the track, the boys’ distance runners were instrumental in Bolles winning its second-ever boys’ track and field state title in 2019, winning individual titles in the 800, 1600 and 3200-meter runs—the first for the 1600 and 3200 in program history. Rivera has coached runners to numerous school records and individual honors as well. Prior to Bolles, Rivera served on the Nease High School staff in the I.B. program as well as head coach of the boys and girls cross country teams and an assistant track coach. In 2009, he was honored as Boys’ Cross Country Coach of the Year by Jacksonville Running Company and Mizuno. Rivera and his family moved to Jacksonville from Indiana where he was head girls track coach at Columbus North High School in 2006 after serving as an assistant track coach from 2001-05. Rivera also assisted the Columbus North cross country program, helping the boys’ team to state titles in 2002 and 2003, and working with Indiana Track and Cross Country Hall of Fame coach Rick Weinheimer. A successful runner, Rivera began his collegiate career at Notre Dame where he was a member of the Fighting Irish cross country and track teams in 1990 and 1991. He transferred to Hanover College where he set school records in the outdoor 3,000-meter run (8:57.10), 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:25.75), and indoor 1,000-meter run (2:31.20). Rivera qualified for the NAIA national championships in the steeplechase in 1992 and was named Hanover’s Outstanding Student-athlete in 1994. He earned a B.A. in Chemistry from Hanover and a M.Ed. from Indiana Wesleyan University. He and his wife, Jodi, have three children- Bolles graduates Chase '19 and Layne '21, and current student Miles '24. |

Ryan's teams have continued a streak of 14 consecutive top-2 finishes at the state meet and 28 straight top-5 finishes. He has guided the girls' program to seven state-runner finishes in his tenure, as well as several top-10 state finishes for the boys' teams. Ryan served as the boys' and girls' track and field head coach from 1998-2003. He led the boys' team to a state title in 1999, a state runner-up finish in 2003, and six straight district titles from 1998-2003. Under Ryan, the girls' track and field team was state runner-up in 1998 and district champions in 2000 and 2003. Ryan returned to the upper school track and field program as an assistant coach focusing on the distance runners in 2006 and helped the girls' team win the program's first state title in 2014 and two more in 2016 and 2017. Prior to Bolles, Ryan led the Bishop Kenny girls' cross country team to three straight state titles from 1994-96 and consecutive district titles from 1992-96.
