Dan Dearing ’95 is returning to The Bolles School as Director of Track and Field, previously serving as head coach from 2004-2019. In his previous stint, Dearing led the Bulldogs to multiple team state titles and earned numerous coaching accolades.

Dearing was selected to the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2020 and earned four state coach of the year honors. He guided the Bolles girls’ team to state championships in 2014, 2016 and 2017 and the boys to a state title in 2019. Dearing also led Bolles to 17 regional titles, 29 district titles and Bulldog athletes won 34 individual and relay titles and set several state records during his tenure.

Dearing served as the statewide Track and Field Chairman for the FACA from 2016-2020 and served on the FHSAA Track and Field Advisory Committee for eight years, five of which he served as chairman. Prior to joining the Bolles track and field staff in 2002 as an assistant coach, Dearing coached track and field and cross country for two years at Oak Hall School in Gainesville.

Dearing competed for the University of Florida track and field team as a decathlete for two seasons, following a transfer from Davidson College. At Davidson, he started at free safety and kick returner for the football team. He also competed for the track and field squad and set the school record in the javelin.

Dearing is a 1995 graduate of Bolles where he participated in football, baseball, wrestling and track and field. He set three school records during his Bolles career in the 300m hurdles, distance medley relay and the 3200-meter relay. He was also a member of the National Honor Society.

Dearing earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Business Management from UF. His father, the Honorable Peter Dearing ’62 and brother, David ’83, are also Bolles graduates. Dearing is the owner of Professional Retirement Services, Inc, a financial services firm. He is married to the Honorable Katie L. Dearing and they have two children, Luke, a freshman at the University of Florida, and Jack ’29, a member of the Bolles cross country and track and field teams.

“I am excited to welcome Coach Dearing back to the Bolles program,” said Athletic Director Rock Pillsbury. “His prior success and experience as a Bolles student-athlete, coach and now parent provide a unique perspective and qualification to lead the teams to a continued high level of success.”
