Liggett Gund RESIDENCE Phase II

The Bolles School is now in Phase II of the Llura “Lulie” Liggett Gund ’58 Residence Hall for Girls – a project that will double the capacity of the School’s girls’ boarding program on the Bolles Upper School San Jose Campus.

Phase II involves converting the second floor of Bolles Hall’s south wing—formerly home to classrooms and offices—into 22 new living spaces and a spacious common area known as Lulie Commons, all of which will open at the beginning of the 2026-27 school year. This new wing, to be named Liggett Hall, will significantly expand the girls’ boarding program and enhance the sense of community and connection among students.

The scope of the renovation calls for more than 4,200 square feet of new dorm space, 4,880 square feet of new common areas, 4,497 square feet of Resident Life family apartments and 1,168 square feet of covered porch space – a wonderful bonus that restores these sunny rooms back to their original state.

Bolles Chief Advancement Officer Carol Nimitz emphasized the emotional and cultural impact of the expansion, made possible by American businessman, philanthropist and professional sports owner Gordon Gund, and his sons, Grant and Zack, in honor of his late wife Llura “Lulie” Liggett
Gund ’58 Bartram.

“Each day, we get to see the spirit of the Gund family’s gift reflected in the happy and motivated faces of our Resident Life students – it’s a living tribute to Lulie’s inspiring spirit and their incredible generosity,” Nimitz said. “This is truly a time of great progress and enthusiasm at Bolles, as the dream the Gund family helped shape nearly four years ago continues to take form.”

Bolles President and Head of School Tyler Hodges said the diversity of the Resident Life program is one of its greatest strengths. In the 2025-26 school year, Bolles boarders hailed from 12 U.S. states and 39 countries and territories, including Guatemala, Australia, the Bahamas and India.
