Rome and Pompeii Travel Program

Because of the pivotal moments and important events that took place there, Italy’s history is very much the history of the world.  The rise of the Roman Empire, with its political and cultural dominance.  The beginnings of the Catholic Church and growth into one of the world’s great religions.  The birth of the Renaissance, which ignited our modern era.  All these help explain why Rome, in particular, holds so much meaning for lovers of history, art, language, and culture.

Bolles Latin teachers lead a group to Rome and Pompeii during spring break on odd-numbered years.  While the itinerary reinforces our Latin program, this experience can provide any upper school student with the ancient, renaissance, and holy "musts" in Rome, while also revealing some hidden gems the teachers have discovered over their many visits to this ancient yet dynamic city.   The completely customized tour reflects the arts, architecture, history, and culture of the Romans and their enduring influence on the city today.  Additionally, students will learn the ins and outs of international travel, particularly in a place where they do not speak the local language.  This includes using a metro system, handling foreign currency, ordering food, reading maps, purchasing tickets, etc.

The cost of the travel program covers most expenses, as well as the guidance of a local, Italian-speaking tour professional to help the group navigate the city efficiently and accomplish a very large itinerary in a relatively short amount of time.
