The Pinnacle of Aquatic Excellence

Message from the Capital Campaign Chair

To the Bolles Swimming community – Past, Present and Future,

The future of Bolles Swimming is being built today and we are thrilled to share our vision with you at long last. Led by Bolles President and Head of School Tyler Hodges, an exciting new initiative is underway to transform our campus aquatic facilities and set a new benchmark for developing student-athletic excellence. It is an honor and privilege to move forward Bolles’ world-renowned six-decade tradition of swimming distinction, and I invite you to join us on this historic journey.

Construction on our new competition pool is underway now – and plans are nothing short of transformative. The new venue replaces the existing Lobano Pool, adjacent to Davis Gym on the Bolles Upper School San Jose Campus. There, we are installing a 25-meter by 25-meter Myrtha Pool previously used in a Las Vegas-based International Swim League event that produced world records and featured Bolles swimming alumni. The pool’s 8-foot minimum depth and full springboard diving facilities means Bolles coaches will soon have the resources to prepare student-athletes for the latest evolutions in NCAA-level competitions. Plans for the new pool area include elevated bleachers and restroom access, which will enhance greatly our spectators’ experience. Additionally, we are building deck-level gutters, which provide a more intimate setting for teaching young swimmers. More efficient use of deck space will allow Bolles to host competitions that are exciting, comfortable, accessible and enjoyable. The venue affords athletes and coaches deep-water resources for training and on-land facilities to match leading global shifts in aquatics. Bolles will soon have the capability to diversify programming and spring toward new competitive heights in the pool.

On the land, construction plans call for an enhancement of indoor training facilities that will bring Bolles’ on-campus resources to the standards of world class programs. These plans ensure athletes are experiencing safe, fun and challenging development of their long-term goals. The land-based facilities include office spaces, storage and second-story multipurpose areas on the Uible Pool House. This second-floor design will provide new spaces for gatherings overlooking the pool and football field. The expansion also enables Bolles to grow its programming to include diving, triathlon and masters-level swimming. The addition of more diversified programming raises the bar for everyone.

In addition to pushing the Bolles Swimming experience forward, the pool project also provides an awesome opportunity to exhibit the rich history of our swimming program. Plans call for new record board spaces and recognition walls – important storytelling areas that demonstrate how life-changing and enriching our program at Bolles has been over the years.

The bottom line is this: when completed, our new pool facility can host professional-level elite competitions and entry-level competitive experiences that our parents, athletes and guests can take pride in. We owe this to our tradition of excellence and our future swimmers and divers demand it! Please join me with your support of this Bolles-changing, athlete-shaping endeavor to push Bolles Swimming into new levels of greatness.
