Bolles Swimmers Compete at USA Swimming Jr. and Sr. Meets
Bolles Swimmers at Junior Nationals

Several swimmers with Bolles ties competed at USA Swimming’s Senior and Junior National Championships. Both meets were held at Stanford University, with the senior national meet July 30 – August 3 and the junior national meet the following week.

At the senior level national championship, former Bolles Sharks club member Kensey McMahon placed second in the 1500 free, fourth in the 800 free and eighth in the 400 free. Bolles alumna Abi Wilder ’17 placed seventh in 200 back. Former Shark Sherridon Dressel placed sixth as part of the Gator Swim Club’s 4x100 free relay, 15th in the 200 back and 18th in the 100 back. Alumnus Paul DeGrado competed in the 200 breast (45th) and 100 breast (67th). Former Shark Dakota Mahaffey competed in the 200 free (51st) and 100 back (56.22).

At the junior nationals, Shark club member Jack VanDeusen earned silver in the 400 IM with an Olympic Trials cut time, placed fourth in the 800 free with a Trials cut and tenth in the 1500 free with a Trials cut. He also competed in the 400 free (33rd), 200 free (51st) and 200 IM (66th). Cobi Lopez Miro ’19 placed 10th in the 200 breast and 13th in the 100 breast, swimming Trials cut times in both events. Leah DeGeorge ’20 placed ninth in the 1500 free, 30th in the 800 free and 36th in the 400 free. Rafael Ponce de Leon ’20 competed in the 400 free (20th), 1500 free (43rd) and 200 free (86th). Carly Schwab ’20 competed in the 100 breast (88th). Other Sharks swimmers competing at the championships were Anna Moore (200 breast-44th, 100 breast 107th) and Billy Jones (200 fly-85th, 100 fly-108th, 50 free-98th).

The Bolles School Sharks competed in the relay events as well. The Bolles boys placed 10th in the 4x100 free (Jackson Kirk ’20, Ponce de Leon, Ethan Thomas ’19, Jones), 16th in the 4x100 medley (VanDeusen, Lopez Miro, Jones, Kirk) and 17th in the 4x200 free (VanDeusen, Ponce de Leon, Kirk, Thomas). The girls placed 17th in the 4x200 free (Megan McGrath ’22, Moore, Kara Gavin ’20, DeGeorge), 31st in the 4x100 free (McGrath, Gavin, DeGeorge, Moore) and 34th in the 4x100 medley (DeGeorge, Moore, Gavin).

The Bolles varsity swim team’s season is underway with the Bulldogs’ first meet at Berkeley Prep on September 7.
