College Counseling 201
Dear Parent(s) of Tenth Graders:
Last year many of you attended a program entitled College Counseling 101, which gave a broad overview of the college search and application process. As a follow-up to that program, and as part of our continued efforts to provide information about the college selection process, this year we are offering College Counseling 201, a program designed for parents of sophomores, and one that goes into greater detail about both college admissions and the proper perspective that parents should take as they navigate the process.
Our presentation will address several aspects of the college search, including myths surrounding college prestige and student success; appropriate goals and limits for parents during the college search; and Bolles admission data at a number of colleges and universities. As part of the program we will examine a series of “scattergrams” that offer admission data by college and that can help students and parents see where an applicant fits into a particular college’s admission profile. (We shared much of this information with the sophomores in October.) At the end of the program we will have a question-and-answer session to respond to any specific queries you might have. To best accommodate the busy schedules of parents, we will hold sessions on three separate dates: February 5 at 4 p.m., February 6 at 12 p.m. and February 7 at 8:15 a.m.
Space is limited, so be sure to RSVP HERE by noon on Thursday, February 1. All sessions will be held in the Class of '46 Alumni Conference Room in Bolles Hall on the Upper School San Jose Campus.
We hope that you and your tenth-grader are having an exciting, challenging and rewarding school year. Please join us for College Counseling 201, so you can take full advantage of the many resources that the Bolles College Counseling program offers.
