Whitehurst First Graders Present Original Poems

Bolles Lower School Whitehurst Campus first graders were in the spotlight for the annual Grade 1 Poetry Recital, held April 30 on the Pre-K lawn with sweeping views of the St. Johns River.

Grade 1 teachers Angela Maguire and Dr. Ashley Hart, along with learning support teacher Meredith Thorpe, worked to guide students through writing original poems this year. Students then shared those pieces at the recital, many inspired by their families, favorite animals, travel, sports and other personal interests.

This event is one of the first major events focusing on students’ confidence in speaking in front of others – an aptitude that is encouraged and practiced often throughout their Bolles experience. For more photos from the Poetry Recital, visit our online gallery. #BollesWhitehurst
