Upper School Students Host Vibrant Arabic Week Activities

The Bolles Arabic Club hosted a series of activities starting April 7 in celebration of Arabic Week on the Bolles Upper School San Jose Campus, coinciding with Arab American Heritage Month.

  • Monday, April 7 – Henna Tattoos
Students gathered at the benches during Activities to get temporary henna tattoos, which were applied using stencils and freehand to create traditional designs.
  • Tuesday, April 8 – Arabic Calligraphy
The Bolles Arabic Club, with help from faculty sponsor Sara Phillips-Bourass, helped those interested learn how to spell their names in Arabic Calligraphy using dry-erase markers and traditional reed pens.

  • Thursday, April 10 – Dancing
Guest dance instructor Bouchra Benchaaboune taught students, faculty and staff the basics of Middle Eastern dance and the dabke on the McGehee Auditorium stage.

  • Friday, April 11 – Drums and Donuts (and Coffee!)
Students learned how to play a darbouka drum, sampled Moroccan coffee and checked out a display of traditional outfits by the benches during Activities. The inviting, rhythmic beating of the drums brought extra energy to campus to cap off a fun-filled week.
