Upper School Students Host Arabic Week

The Bolles Arabic Club hosted a series of activities starting April 20 in celebration of Arabic Week on the Bolles Upper School San Jose Campus, coinciding with Arab American Heritage Month.

  • Monday, April 20 – Tile Maker Competition
    Students tried out their geometric skills and made a tessellated tile design with an online tile maker tool. Those with the best submissions received a special treat at the end of the week.
     
  • Tuesday, April 21 – Arabic Calligraphy
    The Bolles Arabic Club, with help from faculty sponsor Sara Phillips-Bourass, helped those interested learn how to spell their names in Arabic Calligraphy using dry-erase markers and traditional reed pens.
     
  • Thursday, April 23 – Henna Tattoos
    Students gathered to get temporary henna tattoos, which were applied using stencils and freehand to create traditional designs.  
     
  • Friday, April 24 – Hafla Arabiyya (Arabic Party)
    Students learned how to play a darbouka drum, sampled Moroccan tea and sweets and checked out a display of traditional outfits by the benches during Activities.
