The Bolles upper school Hispanic Student Union (HSU) hosted activities throughout the week of October 2 to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
The week kicked off Monday with HSU leaders encouraging upper school students to drop off clothing donations for orphans in Cali, Colombia, for service hours. The next day, it was a battle of the classes for a penalty kick soccer tournament on the lawn in front of Bolles Hall – with the sophomores coming out on top!
On Wednesday, the HSU invited their peers to play dominos – a traditional game for many Hispanic cultures – outside on the benches, and the organization arranged the El Chamo Criollo food truck to serve arepas, empanadas and more during Activities and lunch on Thursday
The week culminated with a celebration of Hispanic music and culture outside on the lawn during Activities on Friday. View pictures from the HSU-hosted activities here.
Upper school students also competed in a Spanish Spelling Bee competition in the Reflection Garden during Activities on October 6, hosted by upper school Spanish teacher Adriana Stam.
Rylan Perales ’25 and Jay Manohar ’26 tied for first place in the Spanish Level 3 category, while Eesh Majithia ’25 won in the Spanish Level 5/AP competition, with Chloe Brown ’24 earning runner up. View pictures from the Spanish Spelling Bee in our online photo gallery here.
