Third Graders Unite for River Day Adventure
Third graders from the Bolles Lower School Ponte Vedra Beach Campus joined their peers on the Lower School Whitehurst Campus October 3 for Grade 3 River Day.
The students rotated between multiple stations throughout the afternoon to connect as the Class of 2034 while gaining confidence and new skills on the water.
Bolles Rowing Director Chris Register, Girls’ Rowing Head Coach Conny Kirsch and Rowing Coach Claire McLenna manned two stations at the Peyton Boathouse & Rice Family Crew Complex – one teaching the Bulldogs about crew and letting them sit in an eight-person shell and the second a lesson in using rowing machines upstairs.
Bolles upper school science teacher Kathryn Henley led a marine science activity that educated students about the different animals that call Northeast Florida home, including alligators, dolphins, bass and turtles.
Whitehurst Campus coaches Trey Leonard ’05 and Rachel Freeman facilitated fishing, crabbing, kayaking and paddleboarding in the St. Johns River with help from lower school nurse Kerry Phillips ’05 and Extended Day associate Cameron Isom.
Thank you to Bolles Grade 3 teachers Amy Coles ’98, Jen Edwards, Pam Ganiel and Michelle Mas ’84 Bartram for all their work organizing this special cross-campus day! To view pictures from Grade 3 River Day, visit our online gallery here.
