Students To Be Published in Anthology
graphic for writing submissions

The Hawkins Project, which publishes an anthology called “What You Need to Know About Me,” selected three Bolles students for publication in its upcoming collection. The editors of the anthology seek to highlight the experiences of young people between the ages of 11 and 24 who have immigrated from one country to another.

Students submitting writing contributions were asked: “How has the experience of migration impacted your life? What have been the gifts and challenges of such a life-changing move? What do we need to know about you?”

“The anthology endeavors to create a platform for some of the most important stories of our time. As such it would be our honor to amplify these voices and all of the hopes, fears and dreams tied to our contributors’ unique stories,” the project site explains. The anthology is part of the International Alliance of Youth Writing Centers.

Bolles students who will be published in the anthology are Jessica Zeng '21, Telvia Perez '21 and Fapianey Alexandre '21. They are students of Bolles English teacher Anna Jacobson.

“I am so proud of them, their work was seen by an editorial board that had no idea who they were – their words on the page alone spoke for them,” Jacobson said. She said she made contacts to make the submissions at the Kenyon Review workshop she attended recently.
