Students Celebrate International Education Week with Global Activities

Bolles students embraced International Education Week November 17-20 with interactive events designed to highlight global learning and cultural exchange. The celebration, recognized nationally by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, promotes programs that prepare students for an interconnected world.

Across campus, students participated in activities organized by the Local Global Council (LGC), a student-led group founded by Global Scholars Grace Ross ’27, Matthew Chanan-Khan ’27 and Sohan Patel ’27. On Monday, the LGC hosted Global Games on the front lawn, featuring sports from around the world including soccer, cricket, kabaddi, Pétanque and mas-wrestling. Luke Meyers ’26 introduced mas-wrestling after learning the sport during his summer studies in Kyrgyzstan. He built the equipment himself and taught his peers how to play.

The Global Connections Committee, led by Global Scholar Olivia Owens ’27, held a bake sale on Tuesday to support local Jewish Family & Community Services (JFCS) food banks. The committee focuses on one global issue each year, and this year’s theme aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2: No Hunger.

Students also engaged in academic dialogue during informational sessions led by Global Scholar Program freshmen. Lynn Ibrahim ’29 discussed the impact of war on education in Syria, while Gianna Goll ’29 presented research on the Taliban and women’s education in Afghanistan. In addition, students joined a virtual dialogue hosted by the Institute of Global Learning.

On Thursday, the LGC brought students together for a World Guesser tournament in the Center for Innovation. The game challenged participants to identify global locations using clues from Google Earth. View pictures from International Education Week here. #BollesGlobal
