Senior Juan Fernandez-Bussy ’22 plans to host a virtual conference this month in the Chahlavi Center for Global Learning and Engagement on April 28 to help educate peers on experiences gained through study abroad. Students connected with NYU Abu Dhabi students will speak on the topic and share their perspectives.
Students are expected to describe their path to study in Abu Dhabi, how they adapted to the culture and language, the customs they experienced and how they prepared for it all in addition to many other topics. The goal of the gathering is to give Bolles students a better point of view on the benefits and challenges of going to college in another country and how to get out of their comfort zone to explore it.
In his proposal to host the event, Fernandez-Bussy explained he would like to facilitate such discussion opportunities twice a year to “improve the number of students that go abroad for college in each graduating class. As a result, the Bolles student body would become more diverse in more ways than one, it would have a more international aspect to it, and it would give students a unique opportunity that very few other high school institutions offer.”
Additionally, there are two global perspective opportunities planned the day before and the day after the Abu Dhabi conference. On April 27, the Chahlavi Center for Global Learning and Engagement will host a United Nations Sustainable Development Goals dialogue with participants from around the world. Another event is planned for April 29.
