Seniors First to Achieve Global Seal of Biliteracy

The Bolles World Languages Department presented 14 seniors with Global Seals of Biliteracy September 11 in the Chahlavi Center for Global Learning and Engagement. These are the first Bolles students to achieve this prestigious credential, which honors individuals who demonstrate proficiency in two or more languages.

Bolles World Languages Department Head Adriana Stam said this distinction allows educational institutions worldwide to formally recognize a student’s multilingual abilities, opening doors to scholarships, academic advancement and career opportunities.

Bolles is proud to extend this distinguished recognition to upperclassmen enrolled in its World Language programs. Those studying Arabic, Chinese, French, Latin and Spanish can now apply for the Global Seal to receive acknowledgment for their linguistic achievements based on scores on standardized tests (AAPPL or AP) taken their junior year.

This year, Bulldogs were recognized in two categories: functional fluency and working fluency. If recognized for functional fluency, it means the individual can navigate daily routines and predictable situations in their certified languages. They can also describe services, follow procedures and respond to frequently asked questions. For those at the working fluency level, the certified individual can handle both routine and unfamiliar situations across formal and informal contexts. They can adjust their language, make recommendations, explain policies in detail and resolve problems with overall accuracy and understanding.

Congratulations to the following bilingual Bulldogs:
