Seniors Capture National Distinction in Spanish Scholarship and Arts

The World Languages Department is proud to celebrate two exceptional seniors—Sameera Ghate ’26 and Jayan Deshmukh ’26—for earning prestigious national recognition through the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish Honor Society).

Ghate had her artwork selected for publication in the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica National Literary Magazine, an annual publication showcasing outstanding student work—entirely in Spanish—from chapters across the country. Editors review hundreds of submissions each year in poetry, short stories, essays and visual art. Sameera’s drawing, Vistazo de Libertad,” was chosen for the Spring 2026 edition, distinguishing itself among visual art entries nationwide. This achievement reflects both her artistic talent and her dedication to Spanish language and culture.

In addition, Deshmukh was recently awarded the prestigious Joseph Adams Scholarship from the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP). This national scholarship is presented to graduating seniors who have been inducted into the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica and who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement in Spanish as well as significant community involvement related to the language.
