Five Bolles robotics teams from three campuses will be competing in the FIRST State Championship competition, which will be held virtually May 21-23.

Representing Bolles in the weekend-long contest are:

  • Team ‘SUP, Bolles Lower School Whitehurst Campus Grade 4 team
  • Team Gigaflop, Bolles Lower School Whitehurst Campus Grade 5 team
  • The Orange Hounds, Bolles Middle School Bartram Campus team
  • The Blue Bulldogs, Bolles Middle School Bartram Campus team
  • Static Discharge, Bolles Upper School San Jose Campus team

The students will join the top 50 teams in the state of Florida for the tournament.

Competing teams from Bolles all performed well in the regional meet and advanced to the state match. Bartram teams Orange Hounds won the Rising All-Star Awards at regionals and Blue Bulldogs won the Core Values Award. The middle school teams are coached by teachers Gabi Fudge and Mark Meyers.

“The students and coaches of these teams have worked together since August using remote conferencing and overcoming a multitude of pandemic restrictions to earn these achievements,” Meyers said. “We are so proud of how they represent our school in all they do.”

In addition to advancing to states, the Whitehurst teams also earned high marks at the regional competition. Gigaflops were finalists at Regionals in the project category, and Team 'SUP took second place in the region for robot game. Both Bolles Lower School Ponte Vedra Beach Campus robotics teams, the CIA (Council of Intellectual Aliens) and the FBI (Future Bolles Innovators), competed at the regional championship but did not advance to state.
