PVB Campus Recognizes Sunshine State Young Readers

Twenty-six students in Grades 3-5 on the Bolles Lower School Ponte Vedra Beach Campus were recognized during the annual Sunshine State Young Readers Award celebration held March 6.

Bolles lower school librarian and information specialist Christina Karvounis hosted the party to applaud the students, who each read double their grade level in books from a list generated by librarians and teachers across the state. For example, Grade 3 students read six or more books, and Grade 4 students read eight or more books to complete the challenge.

This year, the students collectively read 215 books and nearly 50,000 pages, and six Grade 5 students completed the challenge three years in a row!

At the party, the students voted in the statewide election of the best book, enjoyed trivia questions and prizes, wrote pen pal notes to their Bolles Lower School Whitehurst Campus peers, ate breakfast and celebrated reading. Students also received a pair of yellow sunglasses, which they were allowed to wear throughout the school day.
