Bolles students on the Middle School Bartram Campus joined Dean of Students Mindy Kelly for their first Global Student Dialogue on November 30 in the Pratt Library. The online session called “Decoding the News,” was attended by more than 75 middle schoolers from the U.S. and countries across the world, including Canada, India and Romania.
The dialogue kicked off with the group watching a presentation about how digital news has made it increasingly difficult to identify misinformation and easier to spread disinformation. The group chat was active throughout the video as students learned about the challenges of evaluating the validity of sources and identifying when bias may overshadow credibility. After the main presentation concluded, the students broke into small groups to further discuss the topic and share their perspectives.
This initiative was offered through the Global Education Benchmark Group (GEBG) as part of the Bolles Global Learning & Engagement program.
