Middle School Celebrates Shakespeare Day with Theatrical Flair
On March 6, Grade 8 students at the Bolles Middle School Bartram Campus donned their finest period costumes for this year’s Shakespeare Day – an annual tradition brimming with on-stage prose and spirited competitions between the legendary House Capulet and House Montague.
Middle School English teachers Deborah Carney, Tim Creter and Morgan Teichert orchestrated the event, which began with theatrical performances in Parker Auditorium. Students showcased scenes from Shakespearean classics like “Romeo & Juliet” and “Macbeth,” played piano, acted out a Shakespeare insult game show and faced off in trivia.
Lady Carney also shared more about her Shakespeare-focused trip to fair Verona and England last summer, funded by her Ottenstroer Fellowship. She even brought back Capulet and Montague crests purchased from the historic Globe Theatre!
In the afternoon, the eighth graders split into two teams, with Capulets in red and Montagues in blue and moved to Conroy Gymnasium for an afternoon of games and friendly rivalry. To view pictures from Shakespeare Day, visit our online photo gallery.
