Martinez ’27 and Sterling ’29 Excel at Gymnastics Region Championships

Bolles students Joaquin Martinez ’27 and Jimmy Sterling ’29 both posted strong results at the Region 4 Men’s Gymnastics Championships, held March 27-29 in Atlanta. Both gymnasts qualified for the Development Program (DP) National Championships, to be held in Oklahoma City, May 5–10.

Martinez earned First-Place All-Around against top competitors from across the Southeast’s lower eight states. In a remarkable return to competition, this meet marked Martinez’s first full event back following shoulder surgery, making his victory even more impressive. Martinez excelled across all apparatuses to secure the all-around title and establish himself as one of the region’s premier young gymnasts.

“Joaquin’s determination and work ethic have been incredible to watch,” said his coach Drew Carter. “To come back from surgery and perform at this level is a testament to his character and commitment to the sport.”

Sterling secured a Fifth-Place All-Around finish against a highly competitive field. Region 4 is known for its depth of talent and his top-five finish highlights his emergence as one of the region’s promising young gymnasts. Competing against some of the best athletes in the area, he showcased both technical ability and competitive determination.

“Jimmy continues to show tremendous growth and dedication,” said Carter. “Earning a place at nationals at this stage is a huge accomplishment and a sign of what’s ahead for him.”

Congratulations Joaquin and Jimmy!
