Madison ’23 Wins Second in Regional Poetry Contest
upper school student holds certificate

Breeland Madison ’23 recently won second place in the First Coast Young Voices High School Poetry Contest for his entry, “The Tree on Watson Lane.”

The contest invited Grade 9-12 students in North Florida to submit one poem of no more than 40 lines on any subject and in any style. Madison was recognized at the First Coast Poetry Showcase on March 25 and received $100 as a prize for his achievement.

Upper school English teacher Anna Jacobson attended the showcase while Madison was out of town. With his permission, she read his poem to the audience and said they were genuinely moved by his words.

“It’s probably my favorite thing about Bolles that our school allows students to grow in multiple dimensions of their lives,” Jacobson said. “Breeland is a tremendous poet, a versatile athlete and a club leader.”

Congratulations, Breeland! We’re #BulldogProud of you!
