Lyn ’23 Named Jamaican Swimmer of the Year
Bolles swimmer Sabrina Lyn ’23 was named Female Swimmer of the Year on January 20 at the 2022 RJRGLEANER Sports Foundation National Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Awards, honoring the top athletes in Jamaica.
At the CARIFTA Swimming Championships in April in Barbados, Lyn won six gold medals, a silver and a bronze in the 15-17 age group. At the inaugural Caribbean Games, held June 29- July 3 in Guadeloupe, she won Jamaica’s first gold in any sport at the event, winning the 100 breast. She added silver in the 50 breast and bronze in the 100 fly. At the Central American and Caribbean Swimming Federation (CCCAN) Championships, held July 10-18 in Barbados, Lyn added to her impressive achievements. Competing in the 15-17 age division, she won gold in the mixed 4x50 free relay, 4x100 medley relay and 4x100 free relay; placed second in the 50, 100 and 200 fly, 50 free and 4x200 free relay; placed third in the 50 and 100 breast, sixth in the 200 breast and eighth in the 100 free. In the 200 fly final, Lyn broke a 22-year-old Jamaican age group record, held by Bolles alumna and Olympian Janelle Atkinson ’00.
