Lunar New Year Celebrations Continue at Bolles

The Bolles School continues to celebrate the Lunar New Year, with faculty, staff and students joining together for festivities surrounding the Year of the Snake.

In addition to the Lunar New Year Celebration hosted by upper school students on January 25, the Bolles Middle School Bartram Campus held a special convocation January 27 featuring a skit performed by the Grade 8 Chinese class. On the Bolles Lower School Whitehurst Campus, the Cao family also treated the faculty to traditional pastries and tea to recognize the Lunar New Year.

On February 1, 15 Bolles fifth graders joined the Lunar New Year Day Camp on the Bartram Campus, with six upper school Chinese students as their camp counselors. Throughout the day, the lower school students worked with their counselors on writing Chinese calligraphy, practiced basic Chinese Kung fu and Taichi moves, played Chinese jump rope, yoyo and hacky sack games, made Chinese lanterns and papercuts, and learned simple Chinese language and songs. The day ended with the group making delicious egg rolls!

“The fifth graders enjoyed the day tremendously, and I can’t thank our upper school Chinese students enough for sharing their knowledge about Chinese culture during the Chinese New Year,” said Bolles upper school Chinese teacher and camp organizer Chengmei Rothschild.

The upper school volunteers included Gabriela Encina ’28, Alice Lu ’26, Wesley Rozof ’27, Maggie You ’27, Tizen Zhang ’27 and Nina Zhou ’27.

Thank you to all who made this Lunar New Year one to remember! #BollesGlobal
