Knight ’18 Named to Golden Spikes Watch List

Bolles alumnus Austin Knight ’18, a sophomore on the UNC Charlotte baseball team, has been named to the USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List. The Golden Spikes Award will name the top amateur baseball player in the country in July.

Knight currently leads the 49ers hitting .373 on the year, fourth-best in Conference USA, while leading the country with 18 doubles. He ranks second in C-USA in hits (44), slugging (.695) and total bases (82), third in hits per game (1.47) and fifth in RBI (34). Knight has picked up six, three-hit games this season and has recorded a pair of three-double games which ties a school record. Through eight weekend series in 2021, Knight has hit .350 or better in five of them.

"Since Austin's stepped foot on our campus here at Charlotte he has been a game-changer for our entire program,” said Charlotte Head Coach Robert Woodard. “Not only has he produced between the lines amongst the best players in the country, but the leadership and competitive spirit that he brings to our program elevates everyone around him. Our coaching staff is extremely proud of the recognition that Austin is receiving as it quite an honor to be considered and listed among this group of players which we certainly feel he deserves."
