Bolles alumnus Austin Knight ’18 was announced as one of 25 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award, given to the top amateur baseball player in the country. Finalists will be announced June 24, with the winner announced in July. Once again in 2021, college baseball fans around the country will have a vote. Knight is a sophomore infielder on the UNC-Charlotte baseball team, helping the 49ers to the Conference USA regular season title and NCAA postseason in 2021 while earning numerous individual accolades. Knight earned Conference USA Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-Conference USA honors. Knight transferred to Charlotte after a season at the University of Tennessee. Knight hit .342 with 11 home runs and 63 RBIs. He led the nation with 29 doubles and ranked second in C-USA with 80 hits. He was also named a semifinalist by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) for the prestigious Dick Howser Trophy given to the top player in collegiate baseball.
