On the heels of a successful Culture Fair Week on the Bolles Upper School Campus, Japanese Week takes center stage as the theme for the week of April 12-16.
Bolles highlights the community’s many cultures and languages throughout each school year. The special weeks included mid-morning events during Activities period and special events, usually hosted and managed by students or the language faculty. Often the School’s dining services manager, FLIK, prepares special lunches representative of the countries or cultures being spotlighted.
Japanese Week will include an array of activities focusing on the culture, language and food of Japan. On Monday, students can decorate their own stickers in the Schultz Hall Japanese classroom, 213. Students also will be on-hand to help visitors write their names in Japanese. On Tuesday, students may visit the benches during activities to try authentic Japanese tea and purchase a goody bag of Japanese candy. Thursday features a Kahoot Competition testing participants’ knowledge of Japan. The final day of Japanese Week, Friday, is Anime Day. In the Japanese classroom, students will watch the anime “Kimetsu no Yaiba: Demon Slayer.” This event is subject to physical distancing guidelines, so the seven available seats are only available by reserving them through Katrina Aldana at aldanak21@bolles.org.
