Bolles Lower School Ponte Vedra Beach Campus Head Stacey Hendershot has a new Gardening Club on campus.

Their goal? To help science teacher Carolyn Houston with weeding of the School’s raised bed gardens. Student volunteers and teachers learn about the different kinds of weeds and what they look like, then head to the gardens to remove them.

“Mrs. Houston does so many incredible lessons centered around the gardens, but needed help keeping the gardens weeded,” Hendershot said. “We asked students to help and they were more than willing.”

In fact, one student from Anne Fallon’s Grade 3 class was overheard saying she enjoys the weeding more than the playground. The students and their classmates will be taking one day out of their seven day rotation to tend the garden.

“It’s completely optional and only takes place during the school day,” Hendershot said. “It gives students and teachers a chance to enjoy the outdoors and help the School.”
