Happy Diwali, Bulldogs!

Bulldogs of all ages enjoyed Diwali presentations from both parents and peer students on the Bolles Lower School Ponte Vedra Beach, Middle School Bartram and Upper School San Jose campuses today during special Festival of Light events. Whitehurst students were engaged in a student-led exhibition during Monday's flag.

As explained by Bolles India Club leaders, Diwali is “a major Indian festival that symbolizes the spiritual victory of “light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance”. During the festival, families and friends get together to celebrate by making rangolis (mandalas), lighting diyas (decorative lamps), bursting firecrackers and eating delicious foods. Although it is a predominantly Hindu festival, Diwali is observed by non-Hindus and Hindus alike.”

On the Ponte Vedra Beach Campus, parent Kungun Jain talked about the holiday and its tradition, while daughter Noori Jain ’31 explained Rangoli art with sister Reyna Jain ’33 holding up a colorful example. During the Bolles Middle School Bartram Campus’ first full-campus convocation of the year, Esha Kasavaraju ’26 took her expert public speaking skills to the lectern to share a presentation on Diwali’s meaning. She was followed by the student-run Indian dance troupe Team Nachle, which showcased two dance pieces to pop Indian music. The group has been performing together for five years and includes Bolles students from the lower, middle and upper school campuses. Six members of the group performed modern fusion dance, which included bhangra style dancing from the state of Punjab with a Spanish twist. The dancers included Amber Bansal ’24, Aditi Ranjan ’23, Annika Mirjankar ’24, Anaiya Nahar ’25, Sahana Desai ’27 and Ria Kotihal ’26.

Meanwhile, the Bolles Upper School India Club staged a Diwali Celebration at the Benches during Activities period November 4. The event included free Indian cuisine and Rangoli drawings for students and faculty.

Thank you to all who shared the Festival of Light's special meaning, traditions and festivities with the Bulldog family this week. Happy Diwali, everyone! #BollesSpirit #BulldogFamily For more photos from the events, visit our online gallery here.
