Grade 2 Bakery a Lesson in Currency
girls baking

Students in Dr. Jaime Swartz’s Grade 2 classroom had all the right ingredients for a successful lesson on identifying money May 11. Swartz transformed her classroom into a bakery, complete with bakers’ caps, aprons, baking utensils and everyone’s favorite – baked good snacks. The yield? Identifying coins and skip counting by like coins up to $5. At different baking stations around the classroom, students were challenged to identify the value of dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies and to use dollar and cents symbols appropriately. Swartz used world problems and other challenges to help bake the currency lesson into her Bulldogs’ brains. For more photos, visit our online gallery.
