The Bolles Global Learning and Engagement (GLE) department recently announced the creation of the Bolles Global Scholar Program – an innovative academic track that will be available for students beginning in the 2023-24 school year.
The Bolles Global Scholar Program is an interdisciplinary field drawing on politics, economics, sociology, history, medicine and science while focusing on working and communicating effectively across cultures. In addition to academic studies, this work requires engagement in experiences beyond the classroom: travel abroad, active participation, attendance at lectures and involvement in extracurricular activities.
Bolles Director of Global Learning and Engagement Natalia Aycart said this new, competitive academic track will offer a well-rounded educational experience and provide hands-on opportunities to help participating students prepare to overcome real-life challenges.
“Students must be equipped with the necessary skills to succeed in the interconnected and interdependent world that we now live in,” Aycart said. “The Bolles Global Scholar Program is designed to teach students these global leadership and competence skills while shaping them into future global changemakers.”
Goals for students in the program include encouraging self-awareness, risk taking, open-mindedness, global awareness, historical perspective, intercultural capability and collaboration across cultures. Grade 8, 9 and 10 students can apply for the Bolles Global Scholar Program this spring. Click here for more information about the program requirements. Note: Bolles will make an exception this school year and allow rising juniors, who will be in Grade 11 next school year, to also apply to the program.
Those who successfully complete the Bolles Global Scholar Program will also be considered for the Global Scholar Award (beginning in 2023-24). This annual award will be given to a student who demonstrates an ongoing commitment to global learning on campus through their outstanding contributions to the GLE programs, including significant involvement in academic, service and co-curricular activities with a global learning focus. Global Scholar Award winners will also display respect among different people, foster understanding and embrace and strengthen leadership in our global community. This award can be received only once.
