The Bolles girls’ cross country team dominated the Class 2A Championship on November 15, winning the program’s 12th state title with a state record 18 points. The Bulldogs remain tied in the FHSAA record books for the most titles with 2020 Class 4A winner Plant High School. The girls also continued their streak of consecutive top-5 state finishes (27) and top-2 finishes (13). The boys’ team finished as state runner-up, marking five straight years with a top-two placing. The girls’ state title is Head Coach Tony Ryan’s eighth at Bolles and 11th overall in his career. Along with state titles in girls’ and boys’ swimming and diving on the same day, the Bolles athletic program has now won 144 state titles.
The girls’ team finished 80 points ahead of runner-up Montverde Academy and placed all five scoring runners in the top-ten individual places. Jillian Candelino ’23 led the way with a runner-up finish, followed by Ella Mickler ’23 in third and Maxine Montoya ’21 in fourth. Madelyn Popp ’22 (7th) and Layne Rivera ’21 (10th) rounded out the scoring runners.
The boys were led by Cole Rutkowski ’21 in 10th place. Aidin Hasan ’21 (17th), Matthew McClure ’22 (20th), Will Camp ’21 (25th) and Will Morales ’24 (31st) completed the scoring runners.
