Bolles upper school students taking French 4, French 4 Honors and AP French participated in a slam poetry workshop November 6 in the Chahlavi Center for Global Learning and Engagement.
The virtual workshop was led by Québécois poet Élémo, a slam poetry enthusiast for more than 10 years who has over 16 million views, 3 million likes and more than 230,000 subscribers on TikTok thanks to his humorous sketches mixing rhymes and puns. Élémo, who hails is from Montréal, hosts writing workshops in schools, and his family is originally from Haiti. Learn more about Élémo here.
After learning from Élémo, the students composed and presented their own poems in French with guidance from Bolles upper school French teacher Sara Phillips-Bourass.
This workshop was organized and funded by the Centre de la Francophonie des Amériques in partnership with the American Association of Teachers of French as part of National French Week, which runs November 6-12. Twenty-five different classes participated in poetry workshops throughout the Americas as part of the initiative. #BollesGlobal
