French Students Connect with Haitian Author Marie-Célie Agnant

Upper school students in French 4, 4 Honors and AP participated in a “Rendez-vous littéraire” with Haitian author Marie-Célie Agnant on February 23 in the Chahlavi Center for Global Learning & Engagement.

Students prepared questions for Agnant based on her novel “Alexis d’Haïti,” which the students finished reading this month. The novel follows a young boy, Alexis, and his mother as they flee the violence of the Duvalier regime and land by boat in Key West.

The Zoom meeting was organized by the Bibliothèque des Amériques (part of the Centre de la francophonie des Amériques) and is part of a series of literary exchanges with learners of French across North America.

Students participated in the discussion in French and reflected on their reading of the novel and its connections to our local community.
