Play is a powerful tool for learning, and according to fourth graders on the Bolles Lower School Whitehurst Campus, it also is a wonderful treat for a Wednesday!
Students in Susie Kissinger’s class participated in a Global School Play Day, using an hour of the school day to put fun and games back into the lesson.
Global School Play Day is a movement that began in 2015. It encourages teachers to set aside a day for play following three simple guidelines: No screens; no structure; and for teachers to stay out of the way. Kissinger’s students enjoyed board games, played with toys, made crafts and designed a train track that wove throughout the classroom.
The hour of play was a success, providing opportunities for students learn new ways to be “un-bored” and to connect socially with classmate.
