Five Bolles Alumni in NCAA Baseball Tournament

Five Bolles alumni are playing the NCAA Baseball tournament which begins June 4 in regional sites across the country. This impressive number of Bulldog Baseball alums will look to advance their teams from the regionals to Super Regionals and potentially on to the College World Series.

Max Ferguson

Max Ferguson ’18 is a junior infielder on the University of Tennessee baseball team, the third overall seed in the NCAA tournament and a regional host as a national seed. The Volunteers, top seed in the Knoxville regional, will open the NCAA tournament against fourth-seeded Wright State at 6 p.m., broadcast on ESPN 3.

Through the Southeastern Conference Tournament Final, Ferguson has started 60 games for the Vols, hitting .262 with 11 home runs, 10 doubles, 45 RBIs, a team-leading 15 stolen bases, a walk-off home run and walk-off single. He was named to the preseason Golden Spikes Award watch list given annually to the top amateur baseball player as well as preseason All-America and All-SEC lists.

Hunter Barco

Hunter Barco ’19 is a freshman pitcher on the University of Florida baseball team, the 15th overall seed in the NCAA tournament and a regional host as a national seed. The Gators, top seed in the Gainesville regional, will open play against fourth-seeded South Florida at noon on June 4, televised on the SEC Network.

Barco finished the regular season tied for third in the SEC in wins with a 9-2 record. Pitching in his first full season of collegiate play, Barco posted a 4.04 ERA through 14 regular season starts with a .242 batting average against and 92 strikeouts in 75.2 innings pitched. Barco earned his 10th win of the season in the SEC tournament on May 26, pitching all seven innings in the run-rule shortened 13-1 Gator victory. He allowed one run on four hits with two strikeouts. He was named to the All-Southeastern Conference Newcomer Team, announced by the SEC on May 24. Barco competed for the Gators at the start of the 2020 season before the remainder of the season was canceled last March, resetting his eligibility as a freshman in 2021.

Austin Knight

Austin Knight ’18 is a sophomore infielder on the UNC-Charlotte baseball team, the second seed in the Greenville, North Carolina regional. The 49ers will play third-seeded Maryland at 6 p.m. on June 4, broadcast on ESPN 3.

Knight earned Conference USA Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-Conference USA honors. Knight transferred to Charlotte after a season at the University of Tennessee. Through 57 games played this season, Knight is hitting .351 with 10 home runs and 61 RBIs. Heading into the NCAA tournament, he leads the nation with 29 doubles and ranks second in C-USA with 79 hits. He was named to USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, given to the top amateur baseball player in the country. Knight was also named a semifinalist by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) for the prestigious Dick Howser Trophy given to the top player in collegiate baseball.

Clemente Inclan

Clemente Inclan ’17 is a redshirt junior on the University of North Carolina baseball team, the third seed in the Lubbock, Texas regional. The Tar Heels will play second-seeded UCLA at 7 p.m. on June 4.

Entering the NCAA tournament, Inclan has played in 31 games, starting 18, hitting .203 with six home runs and 13 RBIs. He was named ACC Player of the Week on March 15 after he became the first Tar Heel to homer in four-straight games since 2019.

Hamp Skinner

Hamp Skinner ’16 is a senior pitcher on the Samford University baseball team, the fourth seed in the Starkville, Mississippi regional. The Bulldogs will face top-seeded Mississippi State at 3 p.m. on June 4, broadcast on ESPN 3.

Skinner has appeared in 16 games, starting three, with a 5.95 ERA, 4-2 record and 35 strikeouts. He helped Samford to the Southern Conference tournament title, starting the final against Western Carolina where he pitched 5.1 innings with seven strikeouts, two earned runs and five hits with no walks in an 8-6 win. Skinner graduated this spring from Samford.
