First Art Reception of School Year Features Collaborative Sculpture

The Bolles Fine and Performing Arts Department hosted an opening reception for the September art exhibit in Gooding Gallery on September 6. Exhibited pieces were created by artists from both the Upper School San Jose Campus and the Lower School Whitehurst Campus. Their works represent an array of mediums including paintings, sculptures and photographs and will be on display through the end of the month.

A collaborative sculpture depicting a figure holding a colorful globe was also centrally featured in the exhibit. This piece was made by Sculpture I and Painting I students Nora Bouziane ’25, Claire Hastings ’25, Nicki Koons ’25, Kira Merrell ’25, Aryadev Arun ’26, Madison Adams ’26, Caleb Davis ’26, Leila Goll ’26, Sophie Lankarani ’26, Eliana Bruneau ’27, Henry Camp ’27, Greer Davis ’27, Jillian McLaughlin ’27, Sarah Myers ’27, Alexi Parekh ’27 and Kavya Patel ’27.

The group was challenged to express what they were most proud of within the Bolles community, and they collectively decided that the School’s diversity and acceptance of other cultures stood out most prominently. The sculpture will adorn the top of this year’s Bolles Deck the Chairs piece, which upper school fine arts teacher Tiffany Gonzalez said reflects the theme of Let Young Hearts Shine.

“The 2024 chair celebrates their love for their School’s commitment to global citizenship and learning,” Gonzalez said. “We feel young hearts shine brightest when they are free to express and cultivate cultural heritages, beliefs and traditions in environments that are committed to courage, integrity and compassionate discourse.”

The Deck the Chairs exhibit will run from November 27, 2024-January 1, 2025, at the Seawalk Pavilion in Jacksonville Beach. View pictures from the opening reception here. #BollesArts
