Fifth Graders Experience Chinese Language, Culture on Bartram Campus
students participating in chinese new year celebration

On January 25, the first day of the Chinese Lunar New Year, 24 enthusiastic fifth graders enjoyed a dynamic day of fun and learning about Chinese language and culture on the Bolles Middle School Bartram Campus.

The 12 volunteers from Chinese language classes and Chinese boarding students organized a full day of activities for their younger peers. The fifth graders learned Chinese calligraphy, Chinese jump rope, Chinese children’s games and songs, crafts like making Chinese lanterns and culinary skills that led to a delectable meal of Chinese spring rolls.

“Though this was the first time we offered this event, the number of families, parents, and students who expressed interest was overwhelming! Because this was the pilot run, we had to limit the festival to 24 students. Hopefully we will be able to accommodate more students next year. Also we owe a big round of applause to all the Upper School volunteers who made this event possible,” said Upper School Chinese teacher and event coordinator Chengmei Rothschild.

The following student-volunteers helped run the activities and made the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration possible:
