Family, Friends and Former Colleagues Join Morris at FACA Hall of Fame Induction

Several family members, friends and former Bolles colleagues joined former Bolles Athletic Director and Wrestling Coach Matt Morris as he was inducted into the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame on January 10 in Orlando. Morris was announced as a Member of the 2026 Hall of Fame Class in July 2025.

Morris was inducted into the FHSAA Hall of Fame in 2018 and National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2010. Over his career as an athletic director and wrestling coach, Morris was instrumental in an impressive number of championships and served on several state committees.

Joining the Bolles staff in 1982, Morris served in numerous roles including as a history and P.E. teacher, dorm parent, transportation director and coach of multiple sports in addition to wrestling. He guided the Bulldogs to the School’s only two wrestling state titles in 1992 and 1993.

Morris departed Bolles for a brief but impactful stint at Nease High School, where he founded the school’s wrestling program and as athletic director oversaw the first three state titles at the school.

Morris returned to Bolles and was named Athletic Director in 2000, serving in the role until his retirement in 2024. As wrestling coach, Morris guided the Bulldogs to two team state titles, a state runner-up finish, 10 district titles and 14 individual state champions. He also helped the boys’ golf team to a state title as an assistant coach. During Morris’ time as Athletic Director, Bolles won 103 state titles in 15 different sports as well as six swimming national titles and numerous state-runner up finishes and district titles in multiple sports.

Bolles also earned annual all-sports awards from the FHSAA and FACA 23 times during Morris’ tenure as well as multiple national recognitions. In 2009, ESPN RISE ranked Bolles as the #1 boys' athletic program in the country and MaxPreps named Bolles the third best overall athletic program nationally in the same year. That year, the Jacksonville City Council presented a resolution commending Bolles' athletic success. In 2005, Sports Illustrated ranked Bolles as the ninth best athletic program out of 38,000 high schools in the nation over the previous 10 years.
