Chinese Week A Fun Celebration of Culture
students playing pingpong

Held  January 21-14, Chinese Week on the Bolles Upper School San Jose Campus was a tremendous success.

The Chinese Club launched the week’s festivities with a Tuesday food sale at the Benches. Despite the frigid weather, many students stopped by to pick up some of Chinese language teacher Chengmei Rothschild’s fried rice and Aroma Corner’s popular boba tea. The club sold out of both food items! On Wednesday morning, the club organized a Tai-chi training session in the Meditation Garden. Once again, the cold temperature did not stop students from attending the event. Older students taught basic Tai-chi moves in an informative and relaxing session before classes began.

For Thursday’s event, the Chinese Club hosted a Ping-Pong tournament during Activities. Students loved this competition and enjoyed trying Chinese-style jump rope and hacky sack. The ping-pong table remained by the flagpole for the rest of the week for students to play in their free time. Finally, on Friday, the Chinese Club revealed the day’s surprise event: free dumplings at the Benches! During Activities, students queued in a long line to sample free pork dumplings. Club officers fried the dumplings on the spot, handing out the delicious warm treats to brighten the students’ day.

Each morning throughout the week, a trivia question about Chinese culture was posted to the daily announcements. The person who first reported the correct answer to Mrs. Rothschild received a prize. Overall, Chinese week was a very successful endeavor and greatly improved the campus atmosphere and mood of the students! The Chinese Club worked hard to make the week as enjoyable and fun as possible for everyone involved. Thank you to everyone who participated in these events!
