Camp College Builds Excitement Among Seniors

The Bolles Department of College Counseling energized the Bolles Class of 2027 during the first full day of Camp College, an all-day program designed to build community and develop a shared sense of empowerment for the college application process.

Held on September 3 on the Bolles Upper School San Jose Campus, this immersive experience marked the first of two Camp College sessions, with the second and final day scheduled for later this fall.

The day began in Cain Gym, where seniors were warmly greeted by Director of College Counseling Anna Buehn and Assistant Directors of College Counseling Genna Petriccione, Staci Petrich and Matthew Wilmer. Students were organized into color-themed groups—blue, green, black and red—aligning with their college counselors for the day’s activities.

The morning kicked off with a gratitude exercise that invited students to reflect on the community that has helped shape their journey and write a note of gratitude to honor those who have made a meaningful impact in their lives. Seniors then broke into small groups to meet with their individual college counselors and work on their Common App essays and activities lists. They also participated in a lively college and university trivia game to pause their productivity and enjoy a high energy brain break alongside their classmates.

A picnic-style lunch on the River Campus afterward gave students a chance to connect as a class and reflect on the morning’s experiences. In the afternoon, students reconvened in small groups for breakout sessions focused on self-reported transcripts and supplemental essays. Bolles Associate Head of School Andrew Forrester also stopped by to deliver snacks to each group using a rolling cart decked out in orange and blue by College Counseling and AP Coordinator Stephanie Schuster Day ’07!

The program concluded with the seniors reading handwritten letters from Bolles fifth graders who shared words of encouragement and congratulations. Here’s to a fulfilling and successful college application season, seniors! View more photos from Camp College in our online gallery. #BollesClassOf2027
