The swimming events have concluded at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with another strong showing from swimmers with Bolles ties. If Bolles were represented as a country, it would rank sixth in total swimming medals in 2024. Caeleb Dressel (Sharks/USA) and Ryan Murphy ’13 (USA) added to the Bolles Olympic medal count with Dressel winning two gold medals and a silver in 2024 and Murphy winning a gold, bronze and silver. Bolles’ Olympic history now includes 14 medalists, winning a total of 35 medals including 21 gold.
A total of six swimmers – Dressel and Murphy, along with McKenna de Bever (Sharks/Peru), Martin Espernberger ’22 (Austria), Lucero Mejia Arce ’26 (Guatemala), Sabrina Lyn ’23 (Jamaica) – made a splash in the Paris La Defense Arena with Morgan Ray (Sharks/USA) still to compete at the upcoming Paralympic Games beginning August 30. Bolles Swimming has been represented at every Olympics since 1972, producing a total of 67 Olympians.
Dressel kicked off the medal wins with gold in the men’s 4x100 free relay. Murphy then secured bronze in the men’s 100 back. The two combined to win gold in the mixed 4x100 medley relay with Dressel swimming prelims and Murphy on the final relay. The team set a world record in the final. The duo both swam in the final of the men’s 4x100 medley relay, helping the U.S. team earn silver. Dressel, Murphy and U.S. Men’s Head Coach Anthony Nesty ’87 helped Team USA lead the swimming medal count with 28 total medals.
Dressel has now won 10 medals over three Olympics, including nine gold. Murphy has totaled nine medals over three Games, including five gold.
Espernberger led the Bolles swimmers making their Olympic debuts, placing sixth in the men’s 200 fly final and breaking the Austrian record in the event. Mejia placed 28th overall in the women’s 100 back prelims and Lyn placed 29th overall in the women’s 50 free prelims. De Bever, in her second Olympics, placed 29th in the women’s 200 IM prelims.
