Bolles Upper School San Jose Campus students Kate Hastings '21 and Sophie Monahan '21 are candidates in the 2020 Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Students of the Year Program. These students were nominated for the Jacksonville chapter’s annual scholarship and fundraising campaign for their leadership, passion to find a cure for blood cancers and their community involvement.

LLS’ Students of the Year program is a national seven-week challenge period during which high school student leaders raise funds and awareness for the fight against blood cancers. This year’s campaign begins in January and culminates with a gala celebration in March. Funds raised by students will benefit the LLS mission: to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Since the campaign’s inception in 2014, the Students of the Year program has raised more than $16.5 million for blood cancer research, patient aid and community outreach programs.  In 2018  alone, more than 600 high school students raised $13 million.

“We count ourselves lucky to have Kate and Sophie representing Bolles as part of this campaign,” said Anna Rushing, Campaign Manager. “They will be running in honor of local blood cancer patients and for those in our community who have been touched by cancer and will be competing against other top students from high school across Jacksonville.”
