Bolles Students, Faculty Showcase Talents in ‘Newsies’
students acting in Newsies

The FSCJ Artist Series-sponsored production of “Newsies” at the Wilson Center for the Arts opens next week, and several members of the Bolles community will be part of the cast and crew.

Bolles Physics teacher Michael Lipp is directing the professional-quality, big-budget musical. Bolles students Gianluis Hernandez ’20, Jake McGraw ’21 and Kris Stam ’21 have stage roles in the production.

Disney’s “Newsies” is set in turn-of-the-century New York City. “It is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenage ‘newsies.’ When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right.”

The musical is based on a book by Harvey Fierstein and the Disney film. It ran on Broadway and was produced by Disney Theatrical Productions.

The Jacksonville show is July 19, 20, 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m. and July 21 and 28 at 2 p.m. The show will be held at the Nathan H. Wilson Center for the Arts-FSCJ South Camps at 11901 Beach Boulevard. Guests can order tickets online at www.fscjartistseries.org or by phone at (904) 646-2222.
