The Bolles School sent 16 upper school students to the Northeast Florida Regional Science and Engineering Fair (NEFRSEF) held February 12-14 at Episcopal School of Jacksonville.
Five Bolles students were selected to represent the region at the State Science and Engineering Fair of Florida (SSEF): Christina Dovellos ’25, Simran Naval ’24, Sarah Park ’25, Krish Patel ’25 and Dylan Schwartz ’24. In addition to advancing to the April 2-4 state competition in Lakeland, Florida, Naval and Park were also selected as International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) alternates.
Thomas Catto ’27, Sloane James ’27, Madeline Kaiser ’24 and Riya Kar ’24 had strong showings as well, earning individual awards for their respective projects and efforts. See the complete award list below.
Bolles science teacher Brad Bullington was also honored with the NEFRSEF Inspiring Excellence award, which recognizes “untiring dedication, selfless commitment and continuing support of science” with a certificate and monetary prize.
Bolles Science Department Chair Nancy Hazzard shared her appreciation of both Bullington and upper school science teacher Kathryn Halloran for their guidance, mentoring and support for all the regional and state Science Fair participants as well as all students who exhibited a project in the Bolles Expo in December.

- Sarah Park ’25 – Johnson and Johnson Outstanding Research Award (certificate and monetary award), First Place in Medicine and Health, State Science Fair, ISEF Alternate
- Christina Dovellos ’25 – Johnson and Johnson Excellent Research Award (certificate and monetary award), JU Excellence Scholarship, 2nd Place in Biochemistry, State Science Fair
- Krish Patel ’25 – Johnson and Johnson Project Excellence (certificate and monetary award), Regeneron Biomedical Science Award (certificate and monetary award), UF College of Medicine First Place Medicine and Health Project (trophy and monetary award), 2nd Place Medicine and Health, State Science Fair
- Dylan Schwartz ’24 – Johnson and Johnson Project Excellence Award (certificate and monetary award), Society of American Military Engineers to a Project with Potential Military Application (certificate and monetary award), Haskell Award for 1st Place Mechanical Engineering Project (certificate and monetary award), Invitation to Haskell High School Internship Program

- Sloane James ’27 – Society of American Military Engineers Award in Environmental Science (certificate and monetary award)
- Madeline Kaiser ’24 – Florida Association of Science Teachers Award (for her essay recognizing Bolles upper school chemistry teacher Mike Rivera as someone who inspired her)
- Riya Kar ’24 – Johnson and Johnson Excellent Research Award in Zoology (certificate and monetary award)
