Bolles Drama Teacher Directs “Pippin” at Theatre Jacksonville
Bolles lower school drama teacher Daniel Austin is directing “Pippin” at Theatre Jacksonville in San Marco this summer. Whitehurst fourth grader Brooke Lewis ’31 is also taking the stage in the production, which runs from June 9-25.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the effort and dedication that Brooke has put into our rehearsal process,” Austin said.
Winner of four 2013 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival, “Pippin” is the story of one young man's journey to be extraordinary. The show is a mind meld of Stephen Schwartz, of “Godspell” and “Wicked” fame, and Bob Fosse, the genius choreographer behind “Chicago,” “Cabaret” and “Sweet Charity.”
The show contains some mature themes and choice language, as well as a bit of innuendo and highly stylized violence. Viewer/parental discretion is advised.
Tickets are available for purchase at TheatreJax.com. Theatre Jacksonville will also host a student/teacher preview night on Thursday, June 8, before the opening of the show. All tickets that night (available at the door) are $2 for students, $5 for teachers and $10 for non-teachers accompanying a student.
Break a leg, Mr. Austin and Brooke!
