Award-winning Artists Recognized at January Convocation

Three award-winning middle school artists were recognized during a convocation held January 23 in Parker Auditorium on the Bolles Middle School Bartram Campus.

Olivia Owens ’27 was celebrated for the publication of her short story, “A Wolf’s Tale,” as part of the Young Writers Twisted Tales creative writing contest. The competition invited students to write a 100-word short story that explored characterization and the effect of the narrator and perspective on a story. Owens put a twist on the classic, good-versus-evil narrative of “The Big Bad Wolf,” showing the other side of the story from the wolf’s viewpoint. Read Owen’s full short story here.

Kate Curran ’27 and Ella Vance ’27 were also recognized as the only middle school students who won 2023 Northeast Florida Scholastic Art Awards. Curran won a Gold Key Award for her painting “Mortality” and a Silver Key Award for a sculpture called “Beautiful Burdens.” Vance earned a Gold Key Award in the digital art category for a piece entitled “Dim Perspective.” The Gold Key-wining works from both students will go on to compete at the national level. National medal award winners will be announced in mid-March.

We are so #BulldogProud of these talented eighth graders!
