Announcing Chipper Jones Baseball Stadium at The Bolles School

The Bolles School is proud to announce the naming of Chipper Jones Stadium, the new home of Bolles Baseball. The significant impact of Bolles alumnus Larry “Chipper” Jones Jr. ’90 on the sport of baseball is as well-known and widespread as his legend as a player at The Bolles School.

His legacy at Bolles continues to extend beyond his on-field success, as the School publicly announces his lead gift for the renovation of the baseball stadium on the Upper School's San Jose Campus.

“The heart and soul of Bolles Baseball will reside at this stadium where lifelong friendships will continue to form and teams grow stronger together,” Jones said. “I will always appreciate my coaches, teammates and teachers for their many contributions to our success.”

The Bolles Office of Advancement and Operations Team worked together with sports ambassadors, including former lettermen Palmer Knight ’89, who played a key role in building and maintaining the relationship with Jones, to envision the new premises for the School’s baseball program.

Designed by David Luke Architecture, the $3.7 million dollar project will also feature a Fieldhouse, named in honor of Jerry and Bruce Chappell that includes approximately 3,000 square feet of space with locker room, a video room crucial for modern baseball training, coaches’ offices and an entrance lobby designed to showcase more than a half century of baseball excellence.

The stadium improvements will also include an upper-level terrace with dual towers and a traditional architectural design that pays homage to historic Bolles Hall. Planning for the facility began in 2021, coupled with a ceremonial groundbreaking last December. Thomas May Construction, the assigned general contractor, began work shortly after and remains focused on a committed timeline before the start of the 2026 season.

“The new stadium is a key piece to the overall enhancement of the baseball complex,” said Bolles Athletic Director Rock Pillsbury. “Bulldog Baseball fans will enjoy the improved aesthetics and design as well as the new viewing options from the upper-level patio. We are grateful to Chipper for helping us make this a reality.”

Jones's renowned baseball career was crowned with his induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2018. He played his entire career with the Atlanta Braves after being selected first in the 1990 Major League draft immediately following his Bolles career. Among his many accomplishments, Jones earned eight All-Star appearances, was named the 1999 National League MVP, helped the Braves to the 1995 World Series title and won the 2008 National League batting title. He is the only switch-hitter in MLB history to record a lifetime batting average over .300 with at least 300 home runs. His career MLB totals include 2,726 hits, 468 home runs and 1,623 RBI.

Jones was also inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 2016, the FHSAA Hall of Fame in 2012, the Atlanta Braves Hall of Fame in 2013 and honored with a jersey number retirement ceremony at Bolles in 2014.

As a Bulldog, Jones earned All-State honors for three consecutive years, was named the 1989 state tournament MVP in leading Bolles to a state title and was named the 1989 Florida Player of the Year. While 23 Bolles alumni have played at the top level in six different professional sports, Jones is the first alum to be inducted into his sport’s Hall of Fame.
