Alex King ’07 Shares Career Insights at Muffins & Mentors

Bolles alumnus Alex King ’07 returned to the Bolles Upper School San Jose Campus February 26 for a Muffins & Mentors roundtable in the Chahlavi Center for Global Learning & Engagement. King met with students to discuss leadership, service and the career pivots that shaped his path from Bolles athletics to military aviation to the world of high finance.

Inspired by family members who served before him, King knew from a young age that he wanted to carry on that tradition and serve his country. After graduating from the University of Georgia – Terry College of Business, King was commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. During an 11-year career, he served as an attack helicopter pilot and as an air officer for a light armored reconnaissance unit. Alex later left active duty to attend the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, where he earned his Master of Business Administration, before joining Goldman Sachs as a private wealth advisor based in South Florida. Alex now lives in Boca Raton, Florida, with his wife, Elizabeth, and their four young children.

During the conversation, King highlighted what it meant to take calculated risks, lead under pressure and make purposeful transitions throughout his academic, military and professional experiences. The students seated around the table ranged from those already committed to attend a United States Service Academy next year to others exploring careers in finance and business. Each left the room with a clearer understanding of resilience and the lessons King carried with him from Bolles into every stage of his career.

The Muffins & Mentors initiative invites Bolles alumni to discuss their profession and perspectives on the third Thursday of every month as part of The J. Malcolm Jones Jr. Mentorship Program, named for former Bolles Trustee J. Malcolm Jones Jr. ’71.
